Introducing RecoveryAI: Turn Guest Recovery Into a Revenue Channel
Right now, somewhere in your business, a guest is having a bad experience with an order they placed on your app or website. A missing item, a late delivery, the wrong drink. They probably won’t tell you. Most people just stop coming back, and by the time anyone notices they have gone quiet, it’s too late to win them back.
Today we are launching RecoveryAI, an AI agent that recovers those guests automatically, in the moment the order goes wrong. It can be set up to run across every location or you can start by trying it at just a few and it engages the guest inside your own app in your brand's voice. Because it is priced entirely on outcomes, it costs you nothing until a recovered guest actually comes back.
Guest recovery has always been a service cost that restaurants funded on faith. RecoveryAI turns it into a revenue channel that grows with order volume.
Who owns the moment an order goes wrong
Inside your restaurants, you are already excellent at solving problems. A guest flags a problem at the counter and a manager makes it right on the spot. That is hospitality, and it is a big part of why people come back.
But when a first-party order goes wrong, there is no one at the counter. Negative feedback lands in an inbox that gets checked between rushes, or never, and the response comes hours later when the guest has already moved on. Within about 72 hours of a bad experience you are no longer recovering the guest. You are reminding them they were unhappy and let it go.
The third-party marketplaces understood this a long time ago. When something goes wrong on DoorDash or Uber Eats, the guest gets an instant credit and the problem disappears in under a minute. That credit is usually funded by the restaurant, but the trust it builds accrues to the marketplace. The same instant-resolution standard that keeps guests loyal to DoorDash has been working against the brands paying for it. Until now, restaurants have not had a way to meet that standard on their own channels.

The behavior is well documented
We analyzed more than two million guest interactions on the Thanx platform. The pattern is consistent. When a guest has a bad experience and hears nothing back, 42 percent return within 30 days. A same-day response with the right gesture lifts that to 54 percent. That is a 29 percent increase in guests who come back, driven entirely by how fast and how well you respond.
Amazon reports that 92 percent of shoppers buy again from a brand that resolves their problem instantly. Instant resolution is not a service nicety. It is a conversion lever, and it is one most restaurants have never been able to pull on digital

How RecoveryAI works
The whole thing happens inside your existing app and web ordering experience, in four steps.
Live updates. From the moment a guest orders, they see real-time status on their home screen, the way they would tracking a package. They can follow the order without leaving your app, which is where most of the frustration starts in the first place.
One-click check-in. When the order is complete, the guest gets a simple prompt: how was your order? A thumbs up ends it. A thumbs down opens a short conversation.
Instant triage. RecoveryAI already knows the order, so it asks one clarifying question and offers quick options the guest can tap: missing an item, wrong order, cold food, never arrived. No forms, no waiting.
Context-driven resolution. RecoveryAI resolves the issue on the spot with a gesture sized to the situation, for example a free side or a credit toward the next order, and it lets the guest know the restaurant team has been notified so it does not happen again. The guest is done in seconds, and there is always an option to reach a human.
The result is a recovery that feels personal and immediate, running automatically, at every location, on every order.
You stay in control
Handing guest recovery to an AI agent only works if it responds the way your team would.

Generosity. During setup you choose a posture, from cautious (make good only when it is clearly your fault) to whatever it takes. You are choosing a philosophy, not writing rules, and you can change those rules anytime.
.png)
Brand voice. Use the Thanx default, upload your brand guidelines, or write your own instructions. RecoveryAI communicates the way your brand does, down to whether it speaks as an assistant or simply as you.
Guardrails. You set the guardrails, exactly which offers the agent can grant, when to escalate to a human, and where those escalations route. You can preview your configuration against realistic scenarios before a single guest sees it.
.png)
Personalization. Because RecoveryAI lives inside your loyalty data, it treats a first-timer, a VIP, and a serial complainer differently. It weighs who the guest is against what just happened, and it uses a separate decision step, walled off from the guest conversation, so no one can talk the system into a bigger payout. Patterns that look like gaming get flagged and routed to a manager instead of an automatic reward.

Reporting. You see recovery rate, revenue generated, per-location resolution detail, and plain-language summaries of the operational issues showing up at each store. The escalation inbox is built to stay empty. It fills only when something trips the guardrails you set.
What recovery is worth

Take a 40-location fast-casual brand with a $25 average check running about 73,200 digital orders a month. If 3.5 percent of those orders go wrong, that is roughly 2,562 dissatisfied guests every month.
At a 38 percent recovery rate, RecoveryAI brings back about 974 of them. At a $25 check, that is roughly $24,000 a month in recovered revenue. Add the labor you get back from taking triage off your GMs, around 214 hours a month, and you are looking at roughly $6,400 a month in reclaimed labor.
That is about $30,700 a month in total upside, or $769 per location. After RecoveryAI's cost, it pencils to roughly an 8.6x return and about $335,000 net in the first year.
The reason recovery works is math. Winning back a guest already in your CRM costs a fraction of acquiring a new one, and you only pay when it works.
Priced on outcomes
You do not pay for RecoveryAI to run. You pay for it to work.
There are two fees. A small per-resolution fee of $0.25 covers the AI's operating cost when it engages and resolves an issue. A success fee of $2.50 applies only when that guest returns within 30 days. Thumbs-ups are free. Escalations to your team are free. If a guest does not come back, the recovery did not work, and you do not pay for it.
That puts recovery in the same budget category as paid acquisition at a fraction of the cost. It is the cleanest financial case in your stack: attributable per location, testable against a holdout set, and quantifiable in dollars.
Part of a bigger strategy
RecoveryAI is the second AI product we have brought to market in under seven months, following SegmentAI. Most AI for restaurants today makes marketing a little easier without changing what a marketing team can actually accomplish. We are building AI that automates growth, identifies revenue opportunities, acts on them, and reports back in numbers a CFO can use. RecoveryAI is one of those. More to come!
How to get it
Every Thanx customer will hear from their CSM about turning it on. If you are not on Thanx yet and want to see how first-party ordering plus a native recovery agent changes the economics of your digital channel, talk to our team.
